Open Space appoints Andrea Young New Music Coordinator

Open Space was pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Young as New Music Coordinator. Andrea took over from Kristy Farkas, who became Concert Manager at UVic School of Music.

Andrea Young is a composer of acoustic and electro-acoustic music, as well as a vocal performer of contemporary concert music. She is CEO of The Waterfront Studio, a sound production service. Her undergraduate degree in both Vocal Performance and Composition is from the University of Victoria. In 2007, she completed a Masters Degree of Music in Sonology from The Royal Conservatory, The Hague, Netherlands. 

In 2008 Andrea Young initiated the VOICE/wire series,  collections of new works that explore voice and electronics. Her own compositions mixed with the works of fellow composers have been performed in Victoria and Vancouver, Europe and the United States. She has worked as a composer with Quatuor Bozzini, in Montréal, presented two new works with the Tomorrow Collective in Vancouver and performed regularly with Ensemble Sisyphe (emsis.ca) and as a composer and vocal soloist.

Recently Andrea performed her composition, Insatisfecha (2009) in Vienna, Austria, at the International Kyma Sound Symposium and thereafter worked with electronic music mentors Agostino Di Scipio and Trevor Wishart. Her compositions have been commissioned by The Chop Theatre, The Tomorrow Collective, Presentation House Gallery, and The Surrey Art Gallery will be installing her composition in collaboration with André Cormier, Clang Clagan 2010 (the Olympic cuckoo clock), during their Sonic Arts Installation Program of 2011.
