Yvette Poorter and Mayne Island gallerists Anette Witteman and Michael Garrat of Core 490 offered visitors a chance to participate in an International Artist Residency without suffering jetlag or airport taxes. Knock on Woods International Residency was a continuing project that dedicated itself to offering local and international artists a sense of rootedness and respite from a hectic and bewildering globalism. The residence was a para-site that consisted of a rustic tent-cabin and a forest of tree-flags that could be situated at almost any host location. In previous iterations of the project, hosts offered backyards, rooftops, neighbouring sidewalks, grassy knolls, decks and galleries as wilderness for residents. Artists were invited to do a residency with Knock on Woods for a minimum of four hours to a maximum of twenty-four. Artist Yvette Poorter and Annette Witteman offered studio space in a tent-studio situated in a rural acreage. The two presented a screening/ talk at Open Space to introduce the project and set up a schedule of residencies.
