Flowers As The Medium
Artist: Phyl Cowie
Date: February 9 to 12, 1989
Using organic materials, Cowie created an exhibition of floral designs.
As the artist explained, "I love the magic tension between disparate forms, colours and textures that occurs in organic material. It is wonderful to explore the strength and toughness of apparently fragile flowers. The form of each piece of material suggests its placement and each piece has a voice. The greens, traditionally fillers, need to have as much presence as the flowers. I use organic materials at different stages of their life cycles. They will mature and decay so that each piece continues to evolve."
