Das Selbsuchende Auge
Artist: Paul Rode
Date: January 10 to 26, 1991
Artist's Lecture: January 11
Victoria visual artist Paul Rode presented a body of work that reflected distinct styles of painting and assemblage wall works.
"I take a traditional approach to painting, retelling the stories that have been told for centuries. This exhibition represents an overview of the work I have done during the past few years. The paintings fall into three basic groups: (1) images which are narrative and refer in appearance to folk art paintings; (2) images which are conceived intuitively and are influenced by European painting tradition; (3) thir third group, whose development stems from more philosophical concerns, are symbolic representations of the human figure."
