Twelve Victoria artists responded to the theme: "love/lack of love".

Ted Polkinghorne, Angio-blast, Open Space 1988

The artists responded with works that visually explored personal perspectives and social definitions of love with a wide variety of images and media. Commercial and sentimental images associated with Valentine's Day were not taken seriously here. Thus the difficulty in choosing a name for the exhibition. What did allegorical swans, "The Battle of Midway, mating dogs, existentialist video/ sculpture, and a "love" driven monster, to name a few of the works, have to do with love/ lack of love?—A lot more than bad candy and trashy card. Contradiction seemed to be a characteristic of love.

Ian Thomas, Angio-Blast, Open Space 1988

While trying to maintain a "light hearted" approach in coordinating the exhibition, the artists' work and contributions to Angio-blast were taken seriously and much appreciated.
