Face to Face: Aboriginal Teenagers Speak Out

Face to Face: Aboriginal Teenagers Speak Out

Curator: Mira Lemberg

Date: August 4 to 16, 1997

In their own words, and accompanied by full length portraits, twenty-two teenagers from Canada and Australia share candid reflections on aboriginality, family relationships, racism and their sense of belonging in the community. Accompanied by full-length portraits, these personal stories provided an insight into the experiences of young people in a collection of heartfelt writings and images in which the teenagers displayed a pragmatic wisdom and philosophy which belie their youth.

Originally a series of ten photographs and statements by young Australian aboriginals, this exhibition was expanded to include twelve identical contributions by twelve Canadian teenagers from Winnipeg's Children of Earth High School.
