Raymonde April and Pierre Boogaerts

Artists: Raymonde April and Pierre Boogaerts

Date: February 8 to 26, 1983

The exhibition featured photographs from the National Film Board Still Photography division. Raymonde April used her camera in examination of herself and her surroundings. Her camera was the dispassionate witness to incidents and to their subtler dimensions of sadness. Unfulfilled by photography, April completed her work with written phrases that both explained and exorcised her sorrow.

Pierre Boogaert's work dealt with tension between nature and raw material, and culture, the product. This tension was held to be the process of creation. Following and documenting normality, Boogaert gave enlargement and expression to the thoughts and feelings of mundane existence.
