Have your say: Visitors are invited to make comments about Audiospace 2009 and on the Audiospace project in general.

These are some topics that have been discussed with Chantale LaPlante and the Audiospace teams. Feel free to add others.

Acousmatic Listening
Acousmatic listening is a term coined by composer Pierre Schaeffer meaning listening to sound without any cue to its source. Chantale Laplante invited participating artists to work with each other’s field recordings free from association, to construct new ways of perceiving and working with them as sonic material. This approach is in contrast to the intentions of soundscape composition, a practice that brings enhanced reference and connection to the particular sonic environment recorded, often as part of the acoustic ecology movement. What are your thoughts about these two approaches, and what they each bring to the context of listening to the sound environment?

Collaboration: The Audiospace diaries
Chantale Laplante: “The most interesting aspect of collaboration is to be exposed to new ways and to be made curious to things that we would normally not have noticed. It offers the possibility of an engaging conversation where convictions can be transmuted into questions and finally new criterion.” Does having access to the collaborative diaries of the audio artists bring more richness to the experience of the audio work? Did you read the diaries before or after listening to the work? What are your thoughts on the specific collaborative process of Audiospace 2009?

Hi Fidelity Listening on the Internet
The 2009 edition of Audiospace has asked artists to submit work in uncompressed large file format (AIFF or WAV) instead of compressed mp3 files. This gives more available information to the sound - more detail, more nuance – and a higher fidelity audio space for the dissemination of audio work. What are your thoughts and experiences listening to a higher fidelity sound over the internet? Does the higher quality sound invite more engagement with the sound? Do you notice a difference when listening on different speakers or headphones?

Audiospace
As an evolving internet-based forum for audio art, the Audiospace project suggests many possibilities for both artists and listeners. The use of artists’ interactive websites and live telematic performance for example, are two approaches suggested for future editions of Audiospace. What are your suggestions?
