The Art Crawl was organized by Anna Bald and Aubrey Burke, two Open Space curatorial summer interns. Bald and Burke took a keen interest in the local art scene and wanted to concretize the sense of community that exists between the city's galleries and art venues. They managed to combine and open call fro artists projects, a program guide and a sponsored shuttle bus in a dynamic and well received event. Fifteen local galleries as well as independent projects by Anna Banana, Marcel Andreas Reimer, and Studio 1219, made up the list of things to see. The Off the Grid Art Crawl map and program guided residents and visitors alike to a variety of exhibits at participating galleries, publicly accessible studios and various sites throughout the city. As an official en mass open house event, all participating exhibits were on offer for free and by donation late night viewing. The whole event wrapped up at Open space for a late night speical meet and greet, and live music by the popular Victoria music group Listening Party.
The Off the Grid Art Crawl recieved a positive response from local media who recognized the tremendous effort of the organizers and all of the participating artists and galleries. The event continues to raise the awareness of the arts in this city providing a platform for galleries to work together and engage a braoder publice audience.
With the heat of the summer coming full swing a city wide art crawl is upon us. Join local galleries as the city comes alive for an evening of gallery hopping installations and performances. This year will be bustling with 15 local galleries as well as independent projects by Anna Banana, Marcel Andreas Reimer, and Studio 1219.
