Touching the Hem

Touching the Hem

Theresa Emrick

January 30-February 21

This artist works in the conceptual region known as the "grey area", that territory which temporarily escapes conclusion and has equal weight in social constructs like cultural norms, language, technology and other realms. This is the basis for a series of drawings where the answer is flexible, one without fixed boundaries and open to change. These large scale drawings accompanied by very small framed drawings feel not hard, but spongy, they look semi-solid but exude a pure beauty and elegance that devours the viewer, asking what is happening between the two actions: drawing and viewing?

Science Stories

Science Stories

Clint Wilson

January 8-24

An installation of four works which rest between photography and sculpture. Science Stories is comprised of a series of projections built from the illumination of objects integrated with photo-transparencies, focused through glass lenses. Borrowing iconic images from natural and evolutionary history, this work explores ideas surrounding the processes of how we come to know and how that pool of knowledge is fundamental in forming personal identity. Lectures about his own work for the student population of Victoria will be accomplished with the support of Camosun College and the University of Victoria, as well as a public lecture at Open Space.
