Guy Kluscevsek& Sleep Cries (A (B)opera in One Act)
Guy Kluscevsek& Sleep Cries (A (B)opera in One Act) by Wes Wraggett
July 2
Wes Wraggett's one act (B)opera, with libretto by Hubert Meeker, is scored for soprano voice and a small "jazz" ensemble consisting of guitar, percussion, electronics, trumpet, flugelhorn and trumpet. The curtain rises with Carla Meade, a successful business woman, who has everything in life going for her. The only problem is that her temperamental lover, Sergei, has tried to commit suicide with instructions to finish him off if she finds him still breathing. The moral dilemma faced by this hard-nosed business woman who is just as happy to be rid of a problem, but yet actually loves this man presents both parts of this lead character as they square off against one another and provide an opportunity to hear this newest work from a composer whose opera Titanic won the 1991 Geneva Prize for New Opera. Performed by musicians of national and international stature.
