Victoria ---- Amidst the sunny heat and throngs of tourist’s feet exploring Victoria’s downtown zone this summer, three performance projects wil explore gaps in the normal entertainment fare for buffet dazed nomadic audiences. Open Space performance is pleased to host an evening of performance art by three artists exploring different ways to interact and interject public spaces with protest actions, group narcissism, and depths of expression often found behind closed doors.
Ride your bike, grab the pedometer or park and kiss yourself downtown to join the critical mass checking out the action. The tour starts a 6pm outside of Open Space at 510 Fort Street south of Government. We will synchronize our watches and borrow maps from tourists as we recruit innocent by-standers and performance art enthusiasts along the way to the multiple locations along the harbour.
HopArt by Fredrik Axwik - A performance by the Minister of Art and Jump. The jump is performed as a protest against the order of things. The Minister has a very extensive list of protests and anyone that has anything they like to add to the list can do so before the jump. The Minister then takes their problems on his shoulders and jump into the water and thereby solving the problems. Fredrik will be accompanied by the Minister of Casual Living, and amateur turned professional barker, Jesse Scott.
Group Photo. Caleb Speller wields an exploration into the comfort level of pedestrians. A performance to bring strangers together for a brief moment and capture it on film.
Untitled perfromance piece. Jennifer le Roux. “I am not afraid, I was born to do this.” Joan of Arc
As a special edition of the Monday Night Screenings held each summer at the Ministry of Casual Living [9pm] , Fredrik Axwik will present a video and provide a talk about this work.
