Collaboratory: Connecting is the second exhibition in Open Space's Collaboratory Series and brings together Cecile Clayton-Gouthro (visual artist, textile historian) and Andrea Young (performer/composer) to create a visual and vocal presentation that includes three sculptural garments made entirely of vibrant-coloured shoulder pads, as well as a sea of shoulder pads covering the gallery floor. Andrea Young using voice and gesture will "connect" with Clayton-Gouthro and her work through public performances of structured improvisation.
These two artists, from two different backgrounds and artistic practices, will interpret connections between appearance and sexuality, fear and status, perception and reality, inner and outer life, real and external relationship barriers and loving and losing; as well as making reference to the history of shoulder pads and the language of clothing as culture-specific.
