40 fingers is a saxophone quartet with roots in both the American (jazz) and European (classical) traditions of saxophone-playing, and with eyes firmly fixed on the future.
Now in its fourth season, 40 fingers is a group of experienced composers and performers on the Toronto scene. 40 fingers' concerts include free improvisation, contemporary compositions (our own and others), and everything in between. Much of 40 fingers' repertoire also includes theatrical elements and innovative use of the performance space. 40 fingers has recorded two CDs and has recently completed a cross-Canada tour of "Fingers and Film" a programme featuring original compositions by ensemble members played as live soundtracks to contemporary Canadian and early 20th-century German avant-garde films.
