Reading by Donato Mancini and Music by Nuthre (Jeff Morton)
510 Fort Street
Friday, June 23rd
8:30 PM
Donato Mancini is a Vancouver based writer, composer and media artist.
Mancini will give a reading from his latest collection of poetry, Ligatures (New Star Books, 2005), which was recently short listed by the 2006 ReLit Awards.
In a series of interrelated suites, Donato Mancini’s début collection revisits, rearticulates and remixes key concepts behind the most radical writing experiments of the twentieth century: the use of linguistic restrictions to generate text; the incorporation of
found elements; typographical exploration of the visual properties of letters.
“Ligatures is a splendid read, a wake-up
call to both the eyes and the brain.”
Steve McCaffery, Apollinaire’s Bookshoppe
Glitch artist Nuthre (“nous-tres”), fresh from a European tour, will complete the evening with experimental electronica ranging from abstract explorations of pop music and Saskatchewan field recordings, to embarrassingly catchy, melodically-effusive metro-dork-outs; among other rhythmically challenging sounds.
