Eponymously Yours, functions doubly as public relations excercise and as an actual performance. Cindy Baker, who has created a mascot of herself, walks a thin line between remaining true to her own personality and following guidelines of business standard mascot behaviour. Meet Cindy Baker at an informal reception at Open Space on Thursday, August 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
Baker was interested in how mascots operate as effective business and marketing devices. She then applied her research to her own personal identity. Baker explains, “Building a professional mascot costume of myself allows me to travel to communities across the country making personal appearances as Cindy Baker. In this project, my persona’s similarity to other cuddly and approachable characters will function to erase social barriers and encourage physical contact and play, as well as the building of emotional bonds; it will therefore allow me further and more complex access to study people through allowing them to study me.”
